Festivals aren’t all about what bands are headlining and what the celebrities wore. Sometimes we want a little bit more, something a little bit different from our summer of festivals.

Full Moon Party - Koh Phangan, Thailand

If partying on a beach isn’t enticing enough, let us throw in the following: Thailand, a massive full moon, an all-night rave and enough UV paint to cover 10,000 dancing bodies? Better? We thought as much. These immense parties take place once a month and include everything from fireworks, to jugglers and fire-eaters. Get packing.

Do you like your festivals with a healthy dose of sun, sea and sand? Well, pack your swimsuit and head to Croatia, as Hideout is the festival or you. Killer views over the Adriatic ocean and the best boat parties around make this the perfect holiday/festival hybrid. The music ain’t too bad either!

Secret Garden Party - Huntingdon, UK

BEST FOR: RETURNING WITH THE MOST BONKERS STORIES

From naked mud wrestling to sweaty lingerie parties via water balloon slingshots, SGP is, in short, a hedonistic playground for adults. Each year, the festival organisers cite a theme for revellers’ decadent fancy dress, this year it’s Childish Things. All this makes for the best pictures. Instagram at the ready…

Burning Man - Nevada, USA

Get ready to get weird. Upon arrival, returners are welcomed “home” with a hug. Newbies are asked to sound the gong and roll in the dust. Perfect strangers hand out elaborate gifts to passers by, while the more adventurous engage in a game of naked Twister. The whole thing rounds off with a burning effigy, before everyone disappears without a trace...

Perhaps not the best kept secret, Glastonbury is still the biggest festival on the international map. And with good reason – The. Line. Up. Which explains the mad yearly rush for the hard-to-get tickets. Regardless of how festival enthused you are, with something for everybody, Glasto is the one everybody needs to do at least once.

This is no newbie to the festival line-up; Isle of Wight has been drawing crowds for many a decade and was the largest rock music event ever held in 1970. Continuing to surprise and delight, this is more than just a music festival. With everything from rides to silent discos, bohemian woods and a casino, Isle of Wight is a weekend escape.

And it doesn’t end there; partake in yoga, horse riding, foraging, debates, theatre – the list is endless.
